Summersville Lake is the third of three lakes built by the Army Corps of Engineers to help reduce flood waters, maintain dependable stream flow, provide recreation opportunities and enhance fish and wildlife habitat in the 12,300 mile Kanawha River Basin.
Country Road Cabins is just minutes away from Summersville Lake in Hico, West Virginia, and is situated in a private wooded setting. Our Central location puts you within easy reach of the lake – along with all the fantastic recreation activities available in the New River Gorge, including hiking, whitewater rafting, fishing, rock climbing and much more.
Summersville Lake’s known for being exceptionally clear and a favorite destination spot for SCUBA divers. Fishing, boating, and water skiing are also popular and there are three boat launching sites. Complete camping and picnic facilities are also available along with concessions and pump out stations.
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources monitors and maintains the fish and wildlife populations in the lake. Fish populations include smallmouth and largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, walleye, channel fish, and trout.
Three miles west of the Summersville dam is the Carnifax Ferry Battlefield State park, which preserves the Patterson House as an interpretive museum. Battle re-enactments take place in the park each fall.
